Hailsham’s Play Day a Great Success!
Wednesday 6th August 2008 was National Play Day and this year Hailsham held its own event to celebrate. A Play Day was organised by Wealden District Council, Hailsham East Children’s Centre and Wealden’s new Active Play Team. The event was held on the Maurice Thornton playing field and was attended by over 200 children from the local area. Those who attended the free event had plenty of fun to choose from, with great activities on offer such as, a mobile skate park, face painting, arts & craft along with messy and water play. The day was a great representation of play in the local community and was well supported by the local Police and Fire Service. Wealden’s Play Development Officer Katie McMillan said “I hope we can build on this success, it has been a fantastic day for all, it has shown how Play Days are great for communities and I hope next year we can deliver more events throughout the district”. A summary report (pdf 231kb) of the day has been created to show the success! It is hoped that additional funding can be found in order to host further Play Days across the Wealden for next year. However, the fun does not stop here, the Active Play Team will be visiting local parishes and schools with their mobile skate park, offering free play provision for ages 5-16yrs.
