2023-24 Budget and Medium Term Financial Strategy 2023-24 to 2027-28 – General Fund and Housing Revenue Account consultation

Wealden District Council (‘’The Council’’), undertakes a wide range of services including; waste collection and recycling, housing, planning, building control, leisure and cultural services, and environmental health.

The Council does not undertake services such as transport [i.e. highways, roads], education, social care and waste management. These services are the responsibility of East Sussex County Council.

Every year, the Council sets its general fund revenue budget. The annual budget must balance the money we spend with the money we are expecting to receive. The consultation budget for general fund revenue that was presented to Cabinet on 7 December 2022 was balanced, and this was achieved through a combination of additional income and savings alongside a requirement for some services to carefully manage their spending pressures, particularly with regard to inflation and managing demand. We are seeking your views on our approach to setting a balanced and legal general fund budget, as we continue to deliver much needed services and take the action needed to tackle the issues facing the District.
