Draft Homelessness Strategy 2013-18

The Council are required under the Homelessness Act 2002 to carry out a review of homelessness in their area, and produce a Homelessness Strategy for the district every 5 years. The Homelessness Strategy sets out the Council’s priorities in dealing with homelessness in the District. The existing strategy has now expired and a draft revised strategy has been prepared for consultation which will run for 12 weeks between 5th March 2014 and 28th May 2014.

Key findings and changes made:

There were 10 responses to the consultation, 9 via the online survey and 1 written response. The written response was from Supporting People and was with regards to references to their services in the document. All except one of the suggested changes were made. With regards to the online survey, there were responses from a range of organisations/individuals. There was overwhelming support for the priorities. The majority of respondents (78%) felt that the targets in the action plan would meet the priorities and the majority (89%) felt that there was no missing data. There were mixed views with regards to the strategy being clear and easy to understand (59% saying yes) and well laid out (67% saying yes). However, no suggestions for improvement were submitted from those who said “no”.
