The Board of the Conservators of Ashdown Forest is seeking to appoint an Administration Manager based at the Forest Centre, Wych Cross, East Sussex. The Board has a strategic vision to protect, conserve, and enhance the nature and culture of Ashdown Forest as the largest biodiverse heathland and open space in Sussex for the enjoyment, education, health, and recreation of all. The Board is looking for an individual to manage the Forests administrative functions including taking and documenting minutes, supporting the CEO and team in ensuring the effective delivery of associated processes including licences, forest rent & rates, wayleaves, and bye-law compliance, as well as overseeing the delivery of reception and telephone responses at the Centre.

About the Forest: Originally a deer hunting forest, Ashdown Forest is now one of the largest free public access spaces in the Southeast and an internationally important heathland. The responsibility for managing Ashdown Forest on behalf of the Owner, who since 1988 has been the Ashdown Forest Trust, lies with an independent body, The Board of Conservators of Ashdown Forest. The Board, created in 1885, has been regulated under a series of Acts of Parliament, the most recent being the Ashdown Forest Act 1974

About the role: Moving into a new phase of management the Administration Manager will be the member of the leadership team with day-to-day responsibility for the smooth running of the business activities associated with the Act. The Administration Officer will have a strong relationship with the Board and the local community as well as dealing with the public by telephone and in person daily. A good understanding of the importance of governance is essential.
