This position offers an opportunity for an experienced Conservation Officer to work in an area with an exceptionally rich heritage and contribute to the character and development of the built environment.
Working within the Development Management team you will give expert advice and guidance to Planning Officers on conservation and design matters in respect of planning applications, pre-application advice, enquiries, enforcement cases and appeals. You will prepare Conservation Area re-appraisals and management plans, design guidance and other pro-active conservation projects where appropriate, including responses to government and other consultations on matters relating to Conservation and Design matters. You will also be required to carry out negotiations with developers, applicants and agents advising on appropriate methods of repair and maintenance of historic buildings and areas including advising on specialist techniques and the availability of materials and in respect of proposals for listed buildings, conservation areas, building conversions etc.
You will have considerable experience in the field of Conservation and Design and the ability to demonstrate a knowledge and interest in the design and construction of historic buildings. In addition to knowledge of the relevant law, Government Guidance and practice relating to conservation planning and Listed Buildings, you will have a degree or equivalent in a relevant subject (architecture, planning, surveying etc.) and be working towards a professional qualification in Planning, Conservation, Architecture or Surveying. You will need excellent communication skills as you will be required to give a high quality, consistent, customer-focused service and you will also need a good knowledge of the relevant IT software.
