This is a senior role to provide a strategic, horizon-scanning approach to housing in its broadest sense, including housing development and enablement, housing management and standards, and homelessness prevention.

We are looking for someone with a housing or housing-related background who may have experience from a broad range of sectors including housing, and also health, care and the wider statutory and non-statutory sector. You will be expected to work in a fair, open and transparent way across the East Sussex system as a whole.  The post-holder will need to balance the views and needs of various stakeholders, recognising the statutory requirements of the Housing Authorities, in relation to discharging legal duties.  You will need to be able to take a broad approach to housing including working with developers, local planners and social housing providers.

We are keen to attract applicants from a broad range of backgrounds and are particularly keen to attract people with lived experience of homelessness and/or inadequate housing.

This is a full-time post and job share/ less than part time arrangements will be actively considered.  The post is for two years with the potential for extension beyond this time period, based on the role being successful.‘

What will you be doing:

Working closely with the Heads of Housing across the five borough and district Housing Authorities, the local NHS, VCSE, East Sussex County Council and the Registered Providers (as well as wider organisations including the prison, probation, police, housing developers) you will be responsible for horizon scanning across all housing -related issues to identify key current issues and develop an action plan, as well as a Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Prevention Strategy for the East Sussex system.

Based in the Public Health team at East Sussex County Council, you will be jointly managed by a Consultant in Public Health and a Head of Housing.  The work will be supported and overseen by the multi-agency East Sussex Housing Partnership Board.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly supportive team, just a train ride away from London and only 8 miles from Brighton.  East Sussex includes the districts and boroughs of Lewes, Eastbourne, Wealden, Hastings and Rother.  The population has around 550 000 residents and has a higher proportion of older people and a diverse range of communities within rural and urban areas. The county is rich in natural, cultural and historical assets, including seaside resorts, market towns, villages, theatres, historic houses, castles, the South Downs National Park, woodland and coastal paths and cycle ways.
