Salary: £28,426 - £31,587 p.a (includes Market Allowance)

Hours: 37 per week (open to Job Share)

Location: Based Hailsham & Bexhill, East Sussex. Currently remote, with hybrid working options available.


We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and organised Legal Officer (Litigation) to join our experienced and forward-thinking Legal Services Department. The successful candidate will support a busy litigation team and will be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive legal service; in particular, to undertake routine civil, debt and enforcement related work on behalf of the legal shared service for both Rother and Wealden District Councils. This will include drafting and completing routine court pleadings and paperwork, such as claim form, particulars of claim, witness statements and preparing court bundles. It will involve reviewing and advising on the strengths and weaknesses of evidence together with helping prepare cases for presenting applications in the County Courts. The work may include contentious and non-contentious matters.

In addition to some previous experience of drafting and advising on civil litigation and debt related matters, gained in either a local government or private sector dispute resolution setting. You will ideally have a degree in law (or equivalent relevant experience) and be either a qualified or an aspiring Legal Executive (CILEX).
