Team Leader – Planning Enforcement & Environment
Salary: £47,841 - £53,154 p.a plus car allowance of £3,564 p.a

Wealden is a large rural district council located in a stunning area of the South East of England reaching from the south coast either side of Eastbourne and the South Downs National Park, up to the High Weald and Ashdown Forest along the borders of Tunbridge Wells and East Grinstead in the north.
Whilst Wealden is a rural area, much of which is within High Weald AONB, it does have a very buoyant local economy being so close to London, Gatwick Airport and key UK holiday destinations. Consequently, it receives significant numbers of planning applications for a range of new housing, conversions and employment schemes which makes it one of the busiest district planning authorities in the country.
The Council gives high priority to enforcing planning control and is very supportive of the service we provide, which is informed by growing environmental concerns and the expectations of our residents.
Reporting to the Development Manager, you will manage a team of Planning Enforcement Officers, Arboricultural /Biodiversity/Trees Officers, Countryside and Engineers (drainage and rights of way), and Technicians to ensure that planning applications, legal agreements, Conservation, Listed Building, Tree matters and enforcement matters comply with relevant Planning legislation and the requirements of council policies and procedures.
Our Planning Enforcement Officers investigate possible breaches in Planning legislation and prepare enforcement reports on planning and other breaches, whilst our Environment team provide a landscape, biodiversity and arboriculture service to the Council with particular emphasis on the consideration of arboriculture and landscape issues in the area of development management and planning enforcement. In addition this post is responsible for the Countryside and Engineers team who manage the Councils countryside assets and related works, including providing advice on all drainage and rights of way issues and the Technicians who support the whole team.
You will be an experienced officer knowledgeable in the field of Development Management with specific knowledge of Enforcement and Environmental issues, and be supervising staff in your present role. You will have a degree level standard of education in a relevant subject and be eligible for full membership of the RTPI. This position offers a challenge to an experienced senior planning officer looking to take on additional responsibility.
