Cllr Roger Thomas to stand down

Publish Date: 30 June 2020

Councillor Roger Thomas is standing down from his role as member for Heathfield South on Wealden District Council.

He is also relinquishing his position on Heathfield and Waldron Parish Council.

“I’ve represented Heathfield on Wealden District Council since 2015,” said Councillor Thomas. “Between 1997 and 2013 I served on the County Council, so I have had a good innings. However due to medical reasons, I think now is the right time to stand down.

“I’ve enjoyed meeting many local people over the years, and helping them with their problems. I am now 79, so it is probably time someone younger lent a hand.”

“Councillor Thomas has been an effective and dedicated councillor over the years, and we will miss his contribution to the Council,” said Council Leader Bob Standley. “We would all like to give him our best wishes for the future.”

By-elections for seats on local government have been postponed until next year because of the Covid-19. Residents can find information about all Wealden District Councillors on the Council website.
