Public given a voice at Planning Committee meetings
Publish Date: 20 November 2020
Wealden District Council welcomed its first members of the public to speak live at their virtual Planning Committee North meeting on Thursday 12 November.
In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Council quickly adapted to virtual meetings. More than 30 meetings have now taken place online since March. They are available to watch live or recorded via YouTube. The recent introduction of new software now means individual residents can join the Planning Committee meetings and share their views on submitted planning applications.
Councillor Johanna Howell, Chairman of Planning Committee North, says, “We are delighted that our first meeting with public speakers has been such a success. We look forward to welcoming more of our local residents to speak live at our remote meetings. It is of great help to see and hear directly from members of the public before making decisions about planning applications.”
Councillor Susan Stedman, Chairman of Planning Committee South, says, “It is a positive step forward that we can now enable any member of the public to take part in the democratic process. We are expecting our first public speakers at our next Planning Committee South taking place on Thursday 3 December at 10.30am. We look forward to their contribution.”
