Supporting the work of 3VA

Wealden has given the £10,000 Community Hub Funding awarded by East Sussex County Council to 3VA, Voluntary Sector Service.
3VA has been helping the Wealden Community Hub coordinate support with more than 80 volunteer groups across the District throughout the Covid-19 crisis. It has enabled the Wealden Community Hub to assist more than 900 residents, and the Hub continues to be much in demand.
“The work of 3VA has been vital to our efforts to provide a safety net to every household in Wealden,” said Councillor Philip Lunn, Cabinet member for Community and Public Safety.
“Every home has been affected by the Covid -19 safeguarding measures. Our primary aim has been to support vulnerable people and those taking action to self-isolate. 3VA has helped ensure that every caller needing assistance has received help, whether they lived in one of our main towns or in the many villages and hamlets that make up Wealden.
“Wealden in one of most rural districts in the south east of England, but thanks to the tremendous community effort which we have seen everywhere, distance has never been a problem.”
The allocation has been welcomed by 3VA’s Head of Development, Jenny Watson:
“The £10,000 from Wealden District Council means that 3VA has been able to increase our capacity to support voluntary and community groups throughout the District.
“Our new community development officer will be working with us to help groups plan and find funding for delivering their services post lockdown. Some have lost important sources of income as a result of the crisis. Others are likely to face an increased demand, and all will have to change the way in which they deliver services in the future.
“Our new Wealden-funded worker, along with all our other staff, will be sharing information, experience and best practice advice through virtual meetings as well as by phone and email.
East Sussex County Council has awarded a £10,000 grant to each of the five Districts and Boroughs in East Sussex from its Community Hub Grant Fund.
