We are working with our contractors Connected Kerb, to provide more electric vehicle (EV) car charging points across the district.
Only electric vehicles can use these bays, and vehicles must be plugged in and charging when parked in these designated areas.
For more information about on-street public charging points and on-street private charging points, visit the East Sussex County Council website.
Parking and charging costs
Most car parks in the district are free to use but operate with specific time restrictions.
Car parking prices and operating times differ from site to site, so please check the signage at the car park you are using to ensure you have paid the correct price.
There are also charges applicable for the use of electricity when charging a vehicle and signage will be displayed around the EV charging points to display the charges that customers will incur.

Utilisation
Wealden District Council is committed to supporting sustainable transport, and our electric vehicle (EV) charging network is continuing to grow strongly. The latest operational data shows clear, consistent progress across all key performance indicators.
Our network has nearly doubled the electricity supplied to EVs over the past year, increasing from 85,000 kWh in 2024 to 146,000 kWh in 2025. This reflects both growing demand and the expanding use of EVs across the district.
Charging sessions have risen sharply, from 5,600 in 2024 to 8,000 in 2025, while the number of individual users has expanded from 806 to over 1,800. These figures demonstrate that more residents and visitors are choosing electric vehicles and actively using the network.
Overall network utilisation continues to trend upward, moving from an average of 3.45% in 2024 to an average of 4.34% in 2025, with winter peaks of around 7% across the maturing 7kW network.
It is important to note that some third-party platforms, such as Zapmap, measure utilisation based on time connected rather than the actual energy delivered. This approach can overstate usage for slower 3kW chargers and does not always reflect true network performance.
By focusing on our core indicators – energy delivered, number of users, and charging sessions – we can see a healthy and consistent upward trajectory, confirming that the network is delivering real value to EV drivers in Wealden.
We remain committed to supporting EV adoption, expanding infrastructure where needed, and ensuring that residents and visitors have access to reliable, sustainable charging options across the district.
