Wealden District Council is a major employer and investor in the local economy in East Sussex, spending approximately £60 million in 2025/26 on works, goods and services procured from external suppliers.

Wealden District Council’s Contract Procedure Rules require tenders and quotes to be sought as follows:
- Purchases up to £30,000 – officers seeking to use contract arrangements where they exist. May be considered for direct award, subject to prior consultation with Procurement to assess any potential Subsidy Control implications;
- For purchases between £30,000 and under £120,000 (goods, services) and under £250,000 (works, concessions, light touch) – written quotations are invited from at least three suitable companies;
- For purchases over £120,000 ( for goods, services) and over £250,000 (for works, concessions, light touch)- an open tender procedure is used. Opportunities are advertised on both Find a Tender and the East Sussex Procurement Hub e-tendering Portal.
- Contracts where the value exceeds the threshold laid down by the UK Cabinet Office for goods, services and works must be advertised on Find a Tender. From the 1st of January 2026, new thresholds apply and are set out below.
Please note that these thresholds are inclusive of VAT
- Goods: £207,720
- Services: £207,720
- Works/Concessions: £5,193,000
- Light Touch: £663,540
If the standard VAT of 20% applies, then the thresholds before VAT are as follows:
- Goods: £173,100
- Services: £173,100
- Works/Concessions: £4,327,500
- Light Touch: £552,950
