The Mayfield Community and Health Centre site will be occupied for construction from 7 April 2026. The build is expected to take approximately 12 months, with a target completion date in spring 2027.
As part of the re-development, the existing community hall in Mayfield will be demolished to make way for the construction of the new facilities. The project will include a modern community centre comprising a hall, community hub, office space and flexible meeting rooms, and a health centre incorporating four GP consulting rooms, three treatment rooms, patient waiting room and ancillary spaces both of which will provide the residents of Mayfield and Five Ashes with much improved health and village community facilities along with associated parking and thoughtfully designed hard and soft landscaping to enhance the surroundings.
The site will serve as both a community centre and healthcare facility and has been thoughtfully designed with careful consideration of the site’s unique characteristics, the sensitive High Weald landscape and historic surroundings.
The construction contract for the new integrated building has been awarded to Sunninghill Construction, a local Sussex based contractor.
The community hall and health centre project is being undertaken in partnership between Wealden District Council and Mayfield & Five Ashes Parish Council.
Councillor Kelvin Williams, Alliance for Wealden (Liberal Democrat) and lead councillor for Public Health and Asset Management said, “We are incredibly excited to see the new community Hall and medical centre start to take shape. This development represents a major step forward for Mayfield and Five Ashes, creating a modern, welcoming space that will not only provide high-quality healthcare but also bring residents together through a vibrant community hub. Access to healthcare is a fundamental right, and this new facility ensures that our community will be supported in a setting that is fit for the future. It’s an investment in both the wellbeing and the connectedness of our residents, and something we can all look forward to with great pride.”
Ian Parker, chairman of Mayfield & Five Ashes Parish Council, said, “The project has been a long time coming but the placing of the construction contract represents a major milestone and the project completion date is now just 12 months or so away. We would like to thank Wealden District Council for all they have done to help us get to this stage and look forward to opening the new combined community and health centre in Spring 2027. The many flexible facilities being provided will be much used and appreciated by the village for years to come.”
