Construction begins on a new medical centre and community hall in Mayfield
Publish Date: 16 July 2026
A new medical centre and community hall is being built in Mayfield to improve local health services and provide a purpose built, modern community facility for residents of Mayfield and Five Ashes.
Wealden District Council is working in partnership with Mayfield & Five Ashes Parish Council to deliver the scheme. The project responds to long‑standing pressure on local healthcare services and the need for better community facilities.
Sunninghill Construction Company is building the centre, which is due to be completed in May 2027.
Demolition of the existing memorial hall has been completed. The upper car park area has also been fully excavated, with kerbs installed, and drainage and resurfacing work have been completed, marking another milestone in the project
A ground-breaking ceremony took place last week to mark the start of construction.
Councillor Kelvin Williams, Alliance for Wealden (Liberal Democrat) and lead councillor for Public Health and Asset Management, said, “This is an exciting project that will bring local healthcare and community facilities together in one place. The new medical centre will help secure the future of GP services in Mayfield and Five Ashes parish and support the practice to grow, helping ease pressure on local health services. It will also provide a much-needed community hall for the parish, giving residents a new space at the heart of the local community”.
Ian Parker, chairman of Mayfield & Five Ashes Parish Council, said, “It was a pleasure to attend the ground-breaking ceremony marking another significant milestone in this incredible project. I am so grateful to all those who have done so much to make this happen. We are very lucky to live in such a vibrant parish, and I am sure this building will be at the heart of our community in the future”.
