Publish Date: 13 August 2026
Wealden Crematorium has been rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities (FBCA), recognising the high standards of care, professionalism and service provided to bereaved families.
Operated by Wealden District Council, the crematorium provides cremation and memorial services for communities across the district and surrounding areas. The FBCA represents around 85% of cremation authorities in the UK and provides services and guidance to support its members.
The FBCA carried out the inspection as part of its Crematorium Compliance Scheme, assessing key areas including administration, facilities, landscaping and memorialisation, staff, and environmental impact.
The highest outcome available through the scheme reflects the crematorium’s approach to supporting families with dignity, care and professionalism. This gives independent assurance that Wealden Crematorium is providing a high-quality service, from the care shown to bereaved families to the standard of its facilities and day-to-day operations.
Councillor Kelvin Williams, Alliance for Wealden (Liberal Democrat) and lead councillor for Public Health and Asset Management, said: “Achieving an ‘Outstanding’ rating shows that Wealden Crematorium is consistently delivering high standards of care, service and compliance. I am proud that our crematorium team has been recognised for the professionalism, dedication and care they show every day. This rating gives residents confidence that they, and their loved ones, will receive the highest possible standard of service at one of the most difficult times in their lives.”
