Some parish and town councils within Wealden will receive a share of just over £1.1 million from Wealden District Council’s Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) fund, covering the period from 1 April to 30 September 2026.
CIL is a charge that many local authorities in England impose on new developments to pay for improvements to infrastructure in an area which has experienced a new development.
The parish and town councils in Wealden set to receive the share of the money are, Forest Row, Hellingly, Laughton, Framfield, Rotherfield, Wadhurst, Uckfield, Buxted, Heathfield and Waldron, Hailsham, Mayfield and Five Ashes, Crowborough and Maresfield.
Parishes and town councils can use the funding given to support the provision, improvement, replacement, operation or maintenance of infrastructure in its area. For example, delivery of play areas, parks, roads, public transport, health facilities, schools and flood defences.
Councillor Ian Tysh, Alliance for Wealden (Green Party) and lead councillor for Planning and Environment, said, “Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding is about making sure that the facilities and services people rely on grow. This funding can make a real difference to people’s everyday lives. This funding also empowers the town and parish councils to provide what residents within its area need.”
