Free workshops to strengthen Wealden’s high street businesses and town centres
Publish Date: 5 November 2026
Retailers and customer-facing businesses across Wealden can access free workshops through a newly launched programme offering support and advice. The programme is designed to help businesses grow and thrive, creating stronger and more resilient town centres.
Building on the success of a previous High Street Support programme delivered earlier this year, the new initiative; Stronger High Streets, aims to support and protect town centre businesses by helping them overcome the challenges they face.
Developed in response to feedback from local businesses, the programme will offer a series of free workshops covering topics including scams and fraud awareness, business rates, digital skills, marketing, branding and social media.
Tailored, free one-to-one support will also be available to businesses attending the digital skills, marketing, branding and social media workshops. This will help them put their learning into practice and identify ways to develop their businesses.
Workshops are being held in Heathfield, Uckfield, Polegate, Crowborough and Hailsham.
Councillor James Partridge, Alliance for Wealden (Liberal Democrat) lead councillor for Governance, Waste & Local Economy and deputy leader of the council, said, “These workshops are about more than just supporting businesses. They are about helping the people who work in our local shops and businesses feel more confident, knowledgeable and equipped to deal with the challenges they face every day. Strengthening skills, improving customer service and raising awareness of issues such as scams and fraud, can help businesses feel better protected. It can also ensure residents benefit from a more positive experience when visiting their local high streets. Ultimately, supporting our local businesses helps create stronger, safer and more welcoming town centres for everyone.”
The programme starts in Uckfield on 16 November 2026. To find out more about the upcoming workshops and book your space, visit https://www.eventbrite.com/cc/stronger-high-streets-4883969/. For more information, email economicdevelopment@wealden.gov.uk.
