Household Support Fund

Please be advised it can take 14 working days to process your application and make payment. Please do not chase the outcome of your application or payment until the 14 working days have passed. 

On 30 September 2021, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) announced a new grant, the Household Support Fund (HSF).

A further fund was announced in the Spring budget and we have again been provided with a limited fund by the DWP via East Sussex County Council to support households in the most need with food, energy and water bills.

This fund will close on 30th September 2022 or when the fund has been spent, whichever is sooner.

There is a scheme for Working Age people and a scheme for Pension age people. Both, if eligible can apply for Food vouchers and an Energy payment.

Please ensure that you select the right scheme based on your age. Working Age or of Pension (state retirement) age. 

Working Age Scheme

Applicants must be of working age to apply for this scheme.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the support, applicants must be in receipt of a means tested Benefits;

  • Universal Credit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Council Tax Reduction
  • Working Tax Credit
  • Income Support
  • Income Based Job-Seeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

You must be over 18 years of age and live within the Wealden District.

There are two strands to the scheme, ‘Energy and Water Costs’ and ‘Food’.  Eligible applicants / households can apply for both.

Energy and Water Costs

You must provide a recent energy or water bill to receive a one-off £50.00 payment that must be paid off either your water or energy bill.

This is a one-off payment and only one application per household during the lifetime of this scheme is allowed.

You must be resident in the Wealden District, be the named person on the energy or water bill and the account holder of the bank account for which any support payment will be made to.

You will be required to upload a bank statement, an energy or water bill and proof of benefit entitlement.  These documents should all be in the name of the applicant at the application address.  Applications with incorrect information, may be declined.

If you are successful with your application for support, you must upload evidence that you have paid the arrears that you have claimed for otherwise you may be required to repay the funds.

If you have claimed for energy costs under previous household support schemes but did not provide evidence of onward payment to the energy or water supplier, you will not be eligible to claim on this scheme.

Food

Support with Food costs will be will be provided through Huggg Vouchers as follows;

  • £50.00 per adult (aged 18 and over) in the Household. This is a one-off total payment.
  • £30.00 per child  (aged under 18) in the Household. This is a one-off total payment.

This is a one-off payment and only one application per household during the lifetime of the scheme is allowed.

Pension Age Scheme

Applicants must be of state pension age to apply for this scheme.

Eligibility Criteria
