Are you organised? Are you both patient and empathetic? Do you have experience of working with vulnerable people?

Who?

We are looking for someone who is very organised and able support refugees with all aspects of life and integration in adjusting to their new life in the UK. This is a demanding role, and you will need to be empathetic and patient as many of our refugees have experienced significant trauma before arriving here.

What will you be doing?

You will be helping refugees to set up life in the UK. This includes setting up their new home for their arrival, such as arranging furniture.  As well as setting up utilities, help with applying for benefits, budgeting, helping with school and ESOL enrolments.

We also have a number of families who have been in the UK a little while but require welfare visits and help with practical issues. In some instances, you will be working with customers who have no, or very little, English.

Working to a hybrid model, with office base at Hailsham, and some home working, you will mainly be out and about visiting refugee families.

What do you need?

Previous experience of working with refugees or other vulnerable people would be an advantage. More important is having the right skills and personality to ensure a person-centred approach to supporting and empowering refugees to flourish in the UK.

What do we offer?

  • Working for a great, forward thinking Local Authority.
  • Excellent salary, pension, flexible working, fantastic employee benefits and comprehensive staff health & wellbeing scheme.
  • A friendly, supportive team and a range of opportunities for continuing professional development.
  • Hybrid working with the ability to work from home as well as from our newly refurbished offices in Hailsham.
  • Free parking.
