Council approves new Health and Wellbeing Strategy for 2026-2029

Publish Date: 11 June 2026

Wealden District Council’s Cabinet has approved a new Health and Wellbeing Strategy for 2026–2029 and launched an enhanced Healthy Wealden website designed to help residents lead healthier, more active lives.

The updated strategy sets out the council’s vision for improving health outcomes, reducing inequalities and promoting wellbeing across communities. By working with local partners and residents, the strategy aims to create healthier environments and support positive lifestyle choices.

Following a public consultation that received more than 900 responses, the refreshed strategy builds on the success of the council’s previous Health and Wellbeing strategy and focuses on four key priorities:

  1. Mental health and resilience
  2. Loneliness, social isolation and connected communities
  3. Positive health choices
  4. Active communities, environments and facilities

Alongside the refreshed strategy, the Healthy Wealden website has been redesigned to provide a user-friendly platform where residents can easily access advice, local services, and opportunities to support their physical and mental health.

The new Healthy Wealden website went live on 8 June 2026.

Councillor Kelvin Williams, Alliance for Wealden (Liberal Democrat) and lead councillor for Public Health and Asset Management, said, “This strategy shows residents that we are committed to providing vital services to support and improve health and wellbeing.

“The overarching ambition of the Health and Wellbeing Strategy is to reduce health inequalities through a focus on prevention, and our goal is to make it as easy as possible for people of all ages to improve their health and wellbeing and to create affordable, accessible and inclusive opportunities for everyone to lead healthier, happier lives.”

The strategy will guide the council’s work with partners and communities over the next three years to improve health outcomes across Wealden.
