Deadline looming for postal and proxy applications ahead of election
Publish Date: 20 April 2026
With less than a month until Election Day, Wealden residents wanting to vote, and are out of the country or away from home are being reminded to apply for a postal or proxy vote.
A postal or proxy vote can be used if residents wanting to vote will be away from home, on holiday or their job doesn’t allow for them to be able to get to a polling station, which are open from 7am-10pm, on election day.
The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm 21 April and new postal packs will be despatched to residents 27 April. It is important to note that a person with a postal vote will not be able to vote at a polling station, even if they do not use their postal vote.
Proxy vote deadline for application is 28 April 2026.
Residents voting in person at a polling station will need to show photo ID, as this is now law. See all accepted forms of ID.
If Wealden residents do not have one of the accepted IDs, they can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate or complete a paper form and submit it to Wealden District Council. The deadline to apply to use the Voter Authority Certificate is 5pm on 28 April.
