Grant success for Pevensey’s Mint House to secure long-term building preservation
Publish Date: 6 January 2026
The Grade II listed property in Pevensey, East Sussex has been awarded a grant of £21,120 from Historic England to carry out preservation works.
The Mint House is a much-loved timber-framed building dating back to the early 16th century and is one of Wealden’s most significant historic properties.
Following work by Wealden District Council’s Heritage Team in collaboration with Historic England, the property was added to the Historic England Heritage at Risk Register to help safeguard its future.
The grant will fund preparatory work, including structural and condition reports and conservation management plans. These will provide the foundation for planned conservation and repair works, ensuring the building’s long-term preservation.
The council has been proud to continue supporting the Friends of the Mint House Charity, offering advice and guidance on the conservation and repair of the property whilst helping the charity secure funding to protect the landmark.
Councillor Ian Tysh, Alliance for Wealden (Green Party) and lead councillor for Planning and Environment, said, “The Mint House is a remarkable part of our district’s history, and this grant from Historic England is fantastic news. It means that works can be commenced to preserve the landmark which is loved by locals and visitors. It demonstrates what can be achieved when local communities, charities, and the council work together to protect our heritage. We look forward to seeing the building restored and enjoyed by generations to come.”
