More funding given to make a difference in Wealden communities

Following the success of 2025/2026 funding given for the Ward Budgets scheme, Wealden District Council has provided further funding for councillors to continue to invest in projects in their wards.
The scheme was introduced by Wealden District Council in 2025 with the aim to improve local services and facilities for residents. Under the scheme, each district councillor was allocated £10,000 to spend on projects that address local priorities and benefit the community.
During 2025/26 a total of £388,000 was awarded to local organisations and created many changes in the district. Below are some beneficial ways that funding has been spent for 2025/26.
- AV system at Ripe and Chalvington Village Hall
- An access ramp at Nutley Church Hall
- New sports equipment for Crowborough Hockey Club
- Minibus for Hailsham Boxing Club.
- New games and activities for Scouts in Pevensey Bay
- Maintenance of CCTV at the Horam Village Hall
- Refurbishment of toilets in Frant
- ANPR cameras in Withyham
- A sensory room in Danehill
Community groups, organisations and not-for-profit organisations can now apply for 2026/2027 funding through their ward councillor for funding to support community projects.
Councillor Greg Collins, Alliance for Wealden (Green Party) and lead councillor for Finance, HR and Customer Services, said, “This initiative is about supporting the people, places and organisations that make our district the special place it is. We’ve helped community groups protect and improve facilities that so many residents rely on every day.
“We are delivering on our commitment to keep money local, to strengthen local community organisations, and to help ensure they can thrive, rather than just survive. I want to thank every organisation that has applied and continues to make a difference.”
