The Home Office have confirmed that Wealden District Council, on behalf of Local authorities responsible for the camp, will receive funding to support the Asylum Seekers at the camp. Under the terms of the funding by the Home Office, it can only be used to support Asylum Seekers resident at the camp.
The following funding instruction sets out the rules under which funding is provided to local authorities and what the funding is allowed to be spent on.

How much funding will the council receive?
The council has received a payment of £43,400.
This payment covers the period January 2026 to March 2026 and is made up of £100 per month for each occupied bed space above the baseline figure as of 30th March 2025 for the Crowborough Camp accommodation. As this baseline was zero, £100 was due for every occupied bed each month.
Asylum Dispersal Grant 2025/26 Payment Allocation Wealden (quarter 4)
Subsequently, the council received a further payment of £289,200 from the Home Office.
This is an annual payment at a value of £1,200 for every asylum seeker that was accommodated at Crowborough Army Camp on 30 March 2026. The Home Office have confirmed 241 asylum seekers were accommodated at the camp on this date.
Asylum Dispersal Grant 2026/27 Payment Allocation Wealden
This methodology will continue for the 2026/27 year, with the council expecting to receive £100 per month for each occupied bed space above the baseline figure as of 30 March 2026. This baseline figure was 241, as referred to above.
The funding amount has been confirmed as £42,500 for quarter 1 of this year.

The council expects to receive the funding at the end of the following quarter e.g. quarter 1 funding received by 30 September.
How much has the council spent to date?
To date (September 2026) the Council has not spent any of this funding.
The Council has been engaging with a range of partners and other organisations to consider how best to spend the funding. A report is being taken to the council’s Cabinet meeting in October, where a decision will be made on how to allocate some of this initial funding.
