Fly tipping

Reporting a problem

If you would like to report fly tipping you can do this online using My Wealden.

Definition

Fly tipping is the illegal dumping of waste including:

  • General Household Waste
  • Domestic Items such as fridges, beds and washing machines
  • Garden Waste
  • Commercial Waste such as builders rubble, tyres and clinical waste
Residents have a duty to dispose of their waste responsibly.  For further information on Householder rubbish disposal click here.

Fly tips we can deal with

We can remove fly tips if they are on:

  • The Highway
  • Lay-bys
  • Bus shelters
  • Subways
  • Council car and coach parks
  • Recycling centres

Areas we can not deal with

We ask land owners to report fly tipping on their own land to us as soon as possible. Although we will not clear the waste from private land we will gain a clearer image of the extent of fly tipping within the District. We may also be able to prosecute the offenders if we are called out before the fly tip is disturbed.

For advice on how to minimise the risk of fly tipping on your land view the Tackling Fly Tipping Website (external link).

What happens next

Once fly tipping has been reported, it will be followed up with an inspection.  An instruction is then issued to arrange for the items to be collected.

Response times

We aim to clear all fly tips within 5 working days.

Do we ever prosecute?

All fly tips are investigated and we prosecute when able.
