Gas Leaks & Servicing

Gas Leaks

If you smell gas you must act urgently as you are at serious risk.

You should immediately call Transco on Freephone 0800 111999 to report the leak. Also call Wealden District Council on 01323 443375 (24 hours) – as your landlord, we need to be informed and we will need to gain access to your property to deal with the leak.

What else should I do?

  • Turn off all gas appliances
  • Do not smoke
  • Do not use naked flames
  • Do not turn electric switches on or off
  • Make sure that you open doors and windows to get rid of any gas

Gas Servicing

Wealden District Council is legally responsible for carrying out annual safety checks to the gas appliances that belong to the Council e.g. gas boiler.

Each year our contractor will telephone and write to you to arrange a visit to your home. If you don’t let them carry out the check, we may charge you for the visit. If we continue to have problems gaining access to do these safety checks we may resort to forcible entry into your home and your gas will be disconnected. You will also be charged for any costs incurred.

If you do not provide us access to carry out checks you are putting your household at risk.

  • Faulty appliances can cause explosions
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning – poisonous gases cannot be smelt or seen

Help us to keep your household safe.

Quality Monitoring of Gas Servicing

We are keen to ensure that we provide our tenants with an excellent service and require all of our contractors to regularly monitor their performance by carrying out a variety of quality checks.
