About the area
Hidden away in between the M25 and the English Channel, stretching from the Ashdown Forest to the South Downs, the Wealden District is one of the South East’s best kept secrets.
We have over 300 square miles of countryside, two thirds of it an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and one of the largest reserves of ancient woodland in the country.
You can enjoy an enviable quality of life in its five market towns, or many rural villages, but still stay close to larger centres like Brighton, Eastbourne and Tunbridge Wells and within easy access of London.
About the Council
Wealden was rated ‘Good’ under its last Comprehensive Performance Assessment, and enjoys the highest overall satisfaction rating of any authority in East Sussex. That requires dedication.
Wealden handles one of the highest numbers of planning applications in the country, and is proud of its long standing commitment to recycling, its environmental health team’s work with local businesses and the high levels of tenant satisfaction achieved by its housing service.
To do all this, we cannot stand still. Flexible working arrangements, joint initiatives with other authorities and a leading commitment to procurement, show that we can achieve the highest levels of efficiency.
