Food Waste

Food waste bin

Food Waste collections update

We are aware of disruption/delays to some new food waste collections and are working with our contractor to resolve the issues.

Biffa are currently completing any outstanding work before moving onto the scheduled day’s collections.

Please continue to leave your food waste container out until collected. If other properties have been collected in your road, you can report a missed bin via our portal – report a missed bin .

Only the orange topped container should be placed out for the collection. All food waste should be in compostable liners within the bin, loose food waste will not be collected.

Food Waste Collections

From March, every council in England will be carrying out weekly food waste collections from all households. This is a new legal requirement by the Government under the new Simpler Recycling Regulations.

Food waste collection is an important part of increasing the amount of waste we recycle, reducing our impact on the environment and helping to tackle climate change.

Food waste makes up about 30% of the average household waste bin.  By using your food caddy you will free up space in your rubbish bins and help cut down on the amount of waste going to incineration.

What happens next?

Food waste collections are now being rolled out across the District.  Collections will be every week.  You will receive a letter confirming your collection day  before the collections are due to start.  Food waste containers should now have been delivered to households ready for the start of  collections. If neighbouring properties have received their containers, but you haven’t, please report this via our website –  food waste container deliveries

Please do not use/fill your food waste caddy until after you have received a letter confirming the day/date when your collections will start . Until this time please continue to place food waste in your refuse bin.

How will the food waste be collected?

Collection crews will empty your outside food waste container on a weekly basis. This will be collected by a separate collection vehicle to your rubbish and recycling and maybe on a different collection day.   The collection day will be available on our bin day search before collections start.
