Food Waste collections update
In the first 12 weeks of this new service, we have collected over 1,200 tonnes of food waste. A big thank you to all residents taking part in the service.
To avoid any issues with collections we would kindly ask residents to ensure:-
- Only the orange topped container is placed out for collection. Please do not put your kitchen caddy inside your outside container (we cannot replace kitchen caddies lost this way).
- All food waste is contained in compostable liners within the bin. Loose food waste will not be collected.
- Your container is presented at the boundary of your property by 7am on the day of collection.
Food Waste Collections
Since March 2026, every council in England is providing weekly food waste collections for all households. This is a new legal requirement by the Government under the new Simpler Recycling Regulations.
Food waste collection is an important part of increasing the amount of waste we recycle, reducing our impact on the environment and helping to tackle climate change.
Food waste makes up about 30% of the average household waste bin. By using your food caddy you will free up space in your rubbish bins and help cut down on the amount of waste going to incineration.
How will the food waste be collected?
Collection crews will empty your outside food waste container on a weekly basis. This will be collected by a separate collection vehicle to your rubbish and recycling and maybe on a different collection day. The collection day will be available on our bin day search before collections start.
