We can investigate odour from industrial, trade or business premises.
We are unable to investigate residential odour such as cooking or cigarette smoke as we do not have legislation that provides for this.
If you are experiencing odour problems from a neighbouring domestic property we recommend speaking to the owner. If this is not successful or where individuals are not approachable, think about writing to them and if this does not work, then why not try contacting theĀ free mediation service we partner with, who can assist you in communicating with your neighbour. Please read their privacy notice.
We recommend phoning them on 01323 442 781 to discuss their services before you report the problem to us.
If you are experiencing problems from your neighbour and either of you are privately renting or social housing tenants, the issue should be reported to your landlord first.
Please use the reporting form to see what we can help with and for advice on who else can help.
Please note, anonymous complaints cannot be processed.
When submitting your complaint please provide an accurate address or location of where the problem is coming from. That will enable us to assess and investigate your complaint and if needed, contact the person responsible for the issue.
If you are unsure of the address/ location of the problem, then please undertake further investigations before registering your complaint. Please do not use your own address as the source of the problem because we cannot accept your complaint. Unfortunately, Environmental Health is unable to help trace the source of an issue.
