Applicants are required to advertise their Premises Licence applications in the form of public notices and an advert in a local newspaper.
New applications and variations
You must advertise your application in the following two ways:
- For not less than 28 days, starting from the day after we have received your application, the applicant must prominently display an A4, or larger pale blue notice(s) on the relevant premises, which can be easily seen and read by the public from the exterior of the premises (e.g. from the nearest public pavement or highway). If the premises is set back from the public highway/pavement you will need an additional notice(s) displayed nearer the public highway/pavement. If your premises is more than 50 meters metres squared in size then additional notices must be displayed 50 metres along the external perimeter of the premises abutting any public highway.
A notice must be published in a proper local newspaper (not a selling platform or advertising paper etc.) for the area where the premises is located at least once within 10 working days from submitting your application to Wealden District Council.
If you do not advertise your application in these two ways then your application is deemed invalid and all your paperwork will be sent back to you to resubmit.
Please see our example of the public notice below, which must be displayed on the premises and in the newspaper. The notice displayed on the premises must be typed in a font of at least 16. The newspaper advert does not need to be this font but must contain the same information.
- Public Notice for the Premises Licence or Variation of a Licence
- Word document version of the Public Notice for the the Premises Licence or Variation of a Licence.
Please note this notice must be printed on blue paper.
Both the notice and the newspaper advert must contain:
- Name of the applicant
- Trading name and postal address of the premises
- Statement of the relevant licensable activities including times which are proposed to be carried on or from the premises
- The date when representations must be made by. This is 28 days after the date you submit your application to Wealden District Council
